How do I get into this Hobby?

It can feel daunting at first, but microscopy is a very accessible hobby for everyone. Regardless of your education background, all you need is a passion to explore and a willingness to learn.

Get to Nature

This hobby is meant for getting out to nature. Go find your favourite pond or lake, breathe in the fresh air and grab a sample

Find that perfect sample spot

Some of the best spots are by a fresh water shore. Look for sticks, leaves, algae and decaying plant material. This will all harbor life.

Check out iNaturalist for a great community updated resource on organisms, plants and animals and where they were found:

The microscope that gets the use, is the perfect one for you

It can seem overwhelming going into the market for a microscope. But even an entry level scope will show you the microverse. Find something that fits in your budget, read reviews and if it will get use than that is the scope for you

Get Those Supplies

You don't need much! Some things you will need are:​

> Glass Slides
> Cover Slips
> Pipettes
> Gloves
> A sample to look at

Some other items I have found helpful are little tweezers, small jars and a ladle for scooping that water!
